The Chamber Membership continues to grow with your help and ideas. Our membership area includes Northern Tioga County:
Berkshire - occupied in 1791 by several families from Berkshire County in Western Massachusetts. Berkshire is located in Northeast Tioga County on Route 38 and has the small town USA charm with its skyline of multiple church steeples. Berkshire was recently featured on an area tour for a national conference on rural development sponsored by Cornell's Community and Rural Development Institute. Richford - located at the northeast corner of the County. The center of town is the intersection of NYS Routes 38 and 79 in the hamlet of Richford and residents travel to all four points of the compass for work. The Town hosts an annual potato festival and boasts about being the birthplace of John D. Rockefeller. Some of the highest elevations in the County of 1,400 feet or more can be found in Richford. Speedsville - Speedsville is in Tompkins County, in the Ithaca metro area. An Enduro is held here. Speedsville declined when commercial traffic moved from the rivers to the railroad. Well-known residents have included Michigan Gov. Austin Blair. |
Newark Valley - is located in the northeast part of the county and is northwest of Binghamton, New York. Although Newark Valley is primarily a "bedroom" community, there is some local industry. The largest employer is the Newark Valley Central School system, which serves the Towns of Newark Valley, Berkshire, and Richford as well as parts of the Towns of Candor and Owego. The main tourist attraction in the Town is the Bement Billings Farmstead, which hosts the annual sheep dog trials in the spring and Apple Festival in the fall in an original 1800's farmhouse setting.
